The official hurricane season for the Atlantic starts June 1st and ends November 30. This means that we’re in the middle of hurricane season right now! Damage to your house is something nobody wants, but every home owner must be prepared for it. There are several ways in which you should ideally be prepared for hurricane season, and maintaining your gutters is one of them.
Get Your Gutters Cleaned
Leaves, twigs, and other debris dropped by birds or wind can find their way into your gutters if you do not have a cover. Your gutters should be well equipped to handle the rain from a hurricane—assuming they’ve been cleaned. In Middle Tennessee, gutters need to be cleaned three times a year to prevent leaking and clogging.
Make Sure They are Secure
The possibility of high winds means that you’ll want your gutters to be securely attached to your roof. If not, they may not be able to withstand the wind and blow off; potentially causing lots of avoidable damage.
Call a Professional
If you don’t have gutters installed on your home or they need maintenance, give us a call at 615-678-7454. Calling a professional to clean and examine your gutters is the best option. If you choose to clean your gutters on your own, you put yourself at risk for a fall, which could be very serious or fatal. A licensed and insured professional is much better prepared for the job.
Consider Gutter Improvements or New Gutters
Hiring someone to clean your gutters three times a year can get pricey. Here at Gutter Man, we offer a variety of different gutter solutions that can greatly cut down on these costs. Not every home and family’s need is the same, so neither are our fixes. We offer SafeGuard Gutter Guards and K Guard Gutter Protection Systems. SafeGuard Gutter Guards are a good option if you already have new or well functioning gutters. They attach to existing gutters and keep large debris from getting in. They’re highly durable and won’t affect your roof shingles. K Guard Gutter Protection Systems may be the better option for homes that are ready for new gutters, or homeowners who want the most effective solution for their gutters. These are one piece systems that include both a 5-inch gutter and a curved hood. The seamless construction means there’s no chance of leaky seams, and they’re more attractive than other gutters. The system is highly effective at routing water and keeping debris out; while being highly durable.
While installing either of these solutions is a good idea at any time of the year, you may find yourself especially grateful for them during hurricane season. You never know whether a storm will blow your way! If you’re unsure about what needs done to prepare your gutters, give us a call or contact us to schedule an appointment for you or walk you through your options. We’re always happy to help!
